Driving in to Cape Liberty

Many have asked about the road into Cape Liberty and driving past the "tent" in front of the terminal to drop off your bags and passengers.

Here are some photos.... Of course, this will likely change once the new terminal has been constructed, but for at least the next several months, this is how it works.

Sure, it's not the prettiest port in the world, but it's an hour from home, and well...I love it!!

The images below were taken after leaving the South Cove shopping center, so if you're coming from the NJ Turnpike extension, your view will be a LITTLE different...

Coming off Route 440.  If you're coming from the NJ Turnpike, you'll be making a LEFT at the traffic light that's in the background of the image above.

 Driving in....

It's a 2 mile road from 440 into the pier area...

The road will curve around as well...

 Getting closer...

One more big curve coming up....

At last...the drop off area...!!

Drop your bags (follow the directions of the porters who will also be directing traffic)

 Turn left...

 Follow the signs..

Turn left into the road to access the lot, between the buildings...

This is the entrance to the parking lot, you'll pay just inside the fence, before you park.

Walk to the terminal, or you can even catch the shuttle, but it's really not far...

And you're all set!!  Happy sailing!!

Meg, how would you recommend for us to get to the port without spending an arm and a leg? I've heard the cabs and the Black Executive Car services are expensive and we (2) will only be at a hotel close to the airport. Any suggestions for inexpensive transportation?
Thanks.
PJ

Hi PJ...unfortunately, it IS expensive..$50-60 is about average. Welcome to New Jersey. There is no easy way to get there, and no really convenient way to do it cheaply.

Are you flying in? When will you be there? I would not be surprised if rates go up as well, once Quantum gets there....

Feel free to respond if you need more info! Thanks!

Yes, we're flying in. Arrive on 10/22 and leave on the cruise 10/23. Staying overnight at a hotel near the airport on 10/22 but they don't have transportation to the port. So we're looking into the possible options.
We'll also need to get back to the Newark airport at the end of the cruise. Another $55 or more, I presume.
Thanks for the info.

888-816-0973, ext 0 is the number for a company called Independent Driver...they MAY be cheaper. No website, no frills operation. But they have been around for several years, and many on Cruise Critic, and some personal friends of mine, have used them. You can call and see how much they'd charge.

They are the company that a couple EWR area hotels suggests.....I forgot about them til late last night....

Thanks for the info Meg. What is the earliest flight time you would be comfortable booking based on the debarkation at the port? I'm travelling solo, is there a less expensive way to get from the port to EWR other than a $50 cab ride? Any tips will be appreciated,

Jay, there really are no cheaper ways to do it.....getting back to EWR will likely be less....there is a new transportation area outside of the terminal and there's a sign with prices...just tell the dispatcher what you need. I took a pic, I will see if I can post it.

I am nuts about being to the airport early so I would not book anything before noon, and would probably do express walk off. We were there really early after the 2 nighter....

HTH... I will see if i can find the pic..
